There’s a small school nestled in the woods of the tiny town Rancho Santa Fe in California. The school is a K-8 public school with about 800 students, and not until about 5 years ago has the school introduced its students to the world of robotics. Ever since that, the robotics program has grown fast and has become one of the most popular programs at the school. Now, one-third of the school’s students participates in robotics. The school robotics program offers 5th to 7th graders the opportunity to participate in the FLL and 7th-8th graders the chance to join the FTC. Younger graders such as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are offered with Jr.FLL. This school is R.Roger Rowe.
Eight dragons soar in the sky among the eagles and landed in the rocketry lab. There are Five 8th graders and three 7th graders. Two of the eight 8th graders already have experience from the prior season, so they act as the student mentors to the new teammates. Together they formed the Team 8606, The Intergalactic Dragons.

Malcolm McDonough is in 7th grade and attends R. Roger Rowe Middle School and is a member of the Intergalactic Dragons. He enjoys watching and playing football, and he plays saxophone in the school band and is also a member of the student council. His goal this season is about how much the he grows as an individual member of the team as well as growth as a unit. In First Lego League, for two years in a row, his team won the Saturday and Sunday Champions award and qualified to compete at Legoland. He is also the captain of the wrestling team.
Brandon is 12 years old and goes to R. Roger Rowe Middle School.He lives in Rancho Santa Fe and he likes to play video games and play outside. His hobbies are gaming, reading, and magic. He plays flag football and soccer for the school. You can usually find him playing games or with friends. He likes skiing, and each year on ski week he goes to Utah to ski on fresh snow. He has done FLL for two years. He knows how to use the yo-yo and can do tricks with it, and also have fun to impress people with magic tricks.He currently is investing and has been to 3 foreign countries. He has been to 5 states, including Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, and others.

Ella Sobhani is an 8th grader attending R. Roger Rowe in San Diego, CA. This is Ella’s first year participating in FTC Robotics and has very much liked it. She enjoys integrating CAD within FTC Robotics. Ella’s favorite subject in school would be History. She loves learning about the past, the different languages spoken, and how to prevent foul history from repeating itself. She also loves Math class, and her CAD/FTC class. On her free time, Ella plays tennis competitively, goes to Farsi school to gain literacy in the Persian language, participates in two junior youth groups that plan service projects in various places all around San Diego County, and, to help cross-train for tennis, she partakes in the school’s cross country team. Ella hopes to work with the Foreign Services after she graduates college, and hopes to pursue robotics in high school.
Daniel Scuba is a 8th grade student at R. Roger Rowe Middle School. He was active in FLL for three years and this is his second year involved in FTC. When he was a member of the FLL Solar Cyclers, the team placed first in the qualifier to compete in the Legoland tournament during the 2015-2016 season. The team ranked 4th place out of 64 teams. Daniel really enjoys all of the subjects in STEAM. He is also learning SolidWorks in a new FTC Engineering /CAD class at school and Mandarin. Daniel is involved in many extracurricular activities such as Boy Scouts, playing the violin in the school’s String Orchestra, Mandarin School, Soccer and Flag Football. He also enjoys taking part in lots of outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, hiking and camping. Daniel Scuba hopes to become a robotics engineer.
David Scuba is a 7th grade student at R. Roger Rowe Middle School. He has done FLL for three years and this is his first year involved in FTC. He is also learning SolidWorks in a new FTC Engineering /CAD class at school. David is involved in many extracurricular activities with his brother, such as Boy Scouts, playing the violin in the school’s String Orchestra, Mandarin School, Soccer and Flag Football. He is working very hard to achieve his Eagle scout rank. He also enjoys taking part in lots of outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, hiking and camping. David Scuba hopes to become an inventor.
Clara Ritto is currently a eighth grader in Rancho Santa Fe California. She has participated in the R. Roger Rowe robotics FLL program for three years and FTC for 2 years. She hopes to continue through high school. Some of her other hobbies include: wood carving, rocketry, making costumes with her mom, attending Comic-con, and seeing Broadway shows. She has played the violin for seven years, and used to play the saxophone. She hopes to become a forensic scientist in the future.
Wasay Zaman is an 8th grade student attending R. Roger Rowe Middle School. For a total of two years, Wasay has competed in FLL, and this is his first year participating in FTC robotics on the Intergalactic Dragons, he has been participating in robotics since 5th grade. In the robotics room, you would often see Wasay help building and assisting other people. Wasay’s favorite subjects include Science, Spanish, and Writing, and in the future, he wants to pursue the field of surgery. Aside from all of his experience in robotics and academics, Wasay has traveled to many countries, these countries include: Mexico, Spain, England, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E (the United Arab Emirates), Pakistan, and China. When he’s not doing anything, in his freetime, Wasay takes care of his six Red Eared Slider Turtles, two Beta Fishes, and one big Leopard Tortoise he calls Tank.
